This online programme is the second part of the Teacher Education Refresh (TER) programme.
This programme consists of two courses:
- EDU703 Effective Design for Learning
- EDU704 Teaching Practicum.
The TER is for teachers who are required by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand to complete the four-course programme before regaining their Practising Certificate.
You MUST complete EDU701 Teaching in Aotearoa New Zealand and EDU702 Creating a Culture for Learning before you enrol in EDU703 Effective Design for Learning.
You must also complete EDU703 before you begin EDU704 Teaching Practicum.
EDU704 Teaching Practicum includes a four week practicum; teachers are required to negotiate their own practicum placement for EDU704 Teaching Practicum.
This programme is provided by the Open Polytechnic through a subcontracting agreement with CORE Education Ltd.

The Ministry of Education is currently paying the student fee for enrolment in OP7701 Teaching as a Profession and OP7702 Teaching Practice. Please read the Fee Free Offer tab for more details.
About EDU704 Teaching Practicum
As part of EDU704 Teaching Practicum you must complete a four week practicum where you must teach at least 0.5 of a full time teaching load under the supervision of a fully registered teacher in a learning organisation.
You need to complete EDU703 Effective Design for Learning before you begin EDU704 Teaching Practicum and you MUST begin EDU704 Teaching Practicum at least three weeks before your four week practicum.
