Check the Study plan PDF to see the suggested order to study your courses. How long it will take you to complete the qualification will depend on whether you study one, two or three courses each trimester.

Programme Structure

To achieve this qualification you need to complete 18 courses (360 credits). There are two options for study.

If you want to become a chartered accountant, you need to study the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) path. To do this you must complete:

  • The 13 compulsory courses
  • All three courses in the Elective section
  • Both courses in the Chartered Accountant section.

If you are not studying the CAANZ, path you need to complete:

  • The 13 compulsory course
  • Two courses from the Electives section
  • Three electives from any Open Polytechnic degree course. One of these must be a Level 5 course and one must be a Level 7 course.

If this is your first enrolment we recommend you enrol in one course per trimester to start with. Select a course, then go to the bottom of the table to add it to your enrolment plan.

OP700109 Bachelor of Business (Accounting) is closed to new learners for enrolment in 2023.

A new Bachelor of Accounting will be opening shortly, subject to approval from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). This is a new degree developed by Te Pūkenga to meet the new competencies introduced by the accounting professional bodies, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and CPA Australia. The same degree will be offered online and in person at Te Pūkenga campuses.

If you would like to be notified when this degree is available please provide your details here

If you are a current learner in OP700109 Bachelor of Business (Accounting) up to, and including, Trimester 3 2022, we will contact you shortly to advise you about transition arrangements. Depending on how many courses you have completed you will either complete the Open Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or transition to the new Te Pūkenga Bachelor of Accounting.

If you are completing the Open Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Business (Accounting) we will also advise you of the last time each of the accounting courses will be offered. Please be assured that if you transition to Te Pūkenga Bachelor of Accounting you will receive full credit for the courses you have completed.
