This course critically analyses international issues and trends impacting upon early childhood education and care in Aotearoa New Zealand, including globalisation.

The concepts of social justice and advocacy are investigated in relation to the rights of the child as articulated in United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNCROC). You will develop a pedagogical stance in relation to current trends and contemporary issues facing early childhood teachers in the 21st Century.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

Critically analyse international trends and events that continue to shape the direction of the early childhood sector in Aotearoa New Zealand
Discuss in depth the concept of globalisation and impacts on early childhood education, children, families, and societies with reference to UNRIP (United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples)
Investigate the concepts of social justice and advocacy in relation to early childhood education
Debate the rights of the child with reference to UNCROC (United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child)
Develop and critically evaluate a personal and pedagogical stance in relation to a range of socio-political issues affecting early childhood teachers in the 21st Century.
