Open Polytechnic is offering verifiable and non verifiable training in March 2024. REA have listed all the information you require on this page.
We also offer Refresher Training for those who have suspended their licence for $99 + GST
Our 2024 verifiable training will cover the following topics:
- Dealing with customers and clients fairly (mandatory)
- Managing your licence and regulatory obligations (mandatory)
- Natural disasters and weather events: disclosure, risks and issues
- Social Media & Digital Communications: avoiding harm, common risks and issues
- Supervision - process, planning and practice
- Physical Property Inspections
- Sale and purchase agreements: common issues and best practice - Version 3 (Updated)
- Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Online training
Complete your 8.5 hours of verifiable training online, and gain the flexibility to study when it suits you. Open Polytechnic offer it online at a cost of $85 + GST.

Non-verifiable training
Non-Verifiable training is required as part of your licence renewal each year. Open Polytechnic offer it online at a cost of $99+ GST.
Three courses are available to choose from when you register. More information about the courses is below.
1. Apply Knowledge of Ethics and Industry Best Practice Principals to Real Estate Agency work
In this course we are mainly concerned with ethics as applied to real estate practice and we will begin with an overview of the concepts of moral and prudential ethics.
We will then cover ethics in business and consider how ethical principles are applied in a practical sense.
Finally, we will cover illegal acts and discuss what the possible consequences of unethical behaviour may be, including those laid down by legislation and rules.
Although this a non-verifiable course it is mandatory to work in an ethical manner that aligns to your agency's principles and the law.
2. Managing Trust Accounts
This module is primarily about handling money belonging to your clients which occurs when you collect the sale deposits from purchasers and rents from tenants.
Consequently, you have a duty of care greater than that applicable to your own finances.
Such money is known as trust money and it must be distinguished from monies received by you in your capacity as a licensee operating the business of a real estate agent.
We will explore the handling of trust money according to best practice and law within a New Zealand environment.
