You can apply for special consideration for in-course assessments if exceptional circumstances have disadvantaged you in your studies and you need more time to complete the study beyond your extension, or after the end of your enrolment period.
Special consideration is to assist you, if because of exceptional circumstances beyond your control, you are disadvantaged in comparison to other learners.
Apply for your extension first
You can apply for two seven-day assessment extensions through MyOP. You should do this before the assessment due date, but if you forget you can still apply during the 14-day extension period. Your extension will be approved within 24 hours and you will get an email with your new due date.
Extensions cannot go beyond your enrolment end date.
How to request an extension page
When to use the special consideration process
If you need more time past your extension period or past your course end date you can apply for special consideration You need to include supporting documentation about your circumstances. Please do not include photographs of injuries etc, as these are not acceptable proof of circumstances.
The possible outcomes that may be approved are:
- an extension of time to complete an assessment or enrolment, or
- transfer of your enrolment to the next available trimester/offering.
Ensure to include your preference in the outcome section.
Your enrolment cannot be transferred to another person as it is a legal contract between you and Open Polytechnic.
