Practicum 1

You will apply skills in communication, engagement, and assessment to promote positive outcomes for individuals, whanau, groups or communities and will manage practice safely and accountably working within relevant organisational protocols.

You will develop skills in professional report writing and maintain accurate records assuring client confidentiality and privacy.

During the practicum you will be supervised as you engage in reflective practice to describe and apply practice theory, evidence, and knowledge in your work. You will be able to identify the legislative framework underpinning practice situations and discuss associated ethical issues.

The practicum block is preceded by a compulsory practice skills workshop. 

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

• Use a variety of person centred approaches in a service context to gather information about a person’s current situation in order to understand what is important to the person and their whanau. 
• Work in partnership with the person, their whanau, and other professionals to develop an action plan to achieve the person’s goals and ambitions. 
• Reflect on practice and evaluate interactions with people in a service context.
