Educators, parents and counsellors, among others, need to be able to describe, understand, explain and predict human development, based on theories of and research into child and adolescent development.

When you complete this course you should be able to answer the three fundamental questions:

  • who is this person?
  • how did they get to be this way?
  • how are they likely to develop from this point on?

What you will learn

When you complete this course you will be able to:

  • critically evaluate theories of human development, as a means of determining how major theories aid understanding of child and adolescent development
  • critically evaluate research into child and adolescent development.
  • identify and explain developmental processes
  • discuss how biological, psychological and environmental factors impact on child and adolescent development
  • make predictions about child and adolescent development based on your own analysis of case studies and theoretical explanations.
