This advanced online health and wellbeing course connects mental health and wellbeing theory to practice, preparing you for practica and sector work.

The course prepares you to undertake comprehensive assessments and interventions that take into account the significance of discrimination and social determinants in people’s lives.

You are introduced to different ways of evaluating therapeutic interventions (including Māori perspectives) and are required to demonstrate a critical understanding of how legislation and professional ethics influence practice.

The course helps to prepare you to advocate for and apply person-centered therapeutic interventions.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

  • Explain how discrimination and social determinants affect people’s lives and why these factors are important to consider in assessment and intervention practices.
  • Advocate for appropriate person-centred therapeutic interventions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of selected mental health and wellbeing interventions in different contexts, and from different perspectives (including Māori contexts and perspectives).
