Undertaking effective assessments and devising appropriate person-centred interventions are vital skills for mental health and addiction practitioners. This online course provides an overview of a range of mental health and wellbeing assessment and intervention models, including indigenous models.

Professional competencies and relevant legislation that influences assessment and therapy in Aotearoa New Zealand is also covered. The online course is underpinned by a focus on the importance of person centred therapeutic relationships and will help you develop skills in active listening and empathic responses to advocate for appropriate interventions. Additionally, you will be introduced to the importance of self-care, professional supervision and relevant professional codes of ethics that shape current professional practice.
