This course provides the opportunity for critical analysis of current debates related to a range of curriculum areas including early literacies and numeracy, technology and media, and environmental learning. You are provided with knowledge, skills and strategies to develop and defend an informed pedagogical position and contribute to early childhood curricula and future policy directions for early childhood education.
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
Discuss in depth current debates about the differing approaches to early literacy and numeracy learning, including the concept of multiple literacies
Debate issues surrounding the impact of technology and media on young children’s learning
Critically analyse the place of ecological sustainability (principles and practice of environmental learning) in early childhood curricula
Critically examine the role of the early childhood teacher in enacting and evaluating early childhood curricula.
