Mechanical Practice 4

The aim of this course is to provide you with practical skills needed in many industrial processes.  It is designed to teach you the different ways of measuring velocity of a fluid (gas or liquid), forces due to fluids and temperature of a fluid or a solid, and heat flux.

You will also learn to estimate flow rates and head losses in fluid systems, and heat flux in thermal systems.  Overall, this course is designed to help you review the basis of fluid mechanics and heat transfer as well as validate and relate these to practical situations.

Travel to Australia

Attending a practice unit at the University of South Queensland (USQ) in Australia is a requirement of this course.

Once you have decided on the practice unit you would like to attend we recommend you email us at beng.technology@openpolytechnic.ac.nz so we can arrange your placement with USQ on your behalf. Once we have confirmed your placement, we will notify you and then you can enrol in the course via our website.

 

Computer and internet requirements

To complete this course you will need access to a laptop or desktop computer, reliable broadband internet connection and a data plan able to support online learning such as streaming of videos (including YouTube), downloading content, and writing and submitting online assessments. If you are unsure if your current computer or internet access allows you to complete your online learning with us, please contact us before applying to enrol.
